ADAPTIVE GROWTH
São Paulo

Economic and social instability can breed adaptive behaviors for business that ought to be better understood and modeled in developed markets. On our São Paulo immersion we traversed examples in the growing fintech and healthcare sectors catering to the underbanked; urban planning efforts reliant on public private partnerships; and large corporations embracing concrete metrics to hold themselves accountable for their environmental impact.

We spent time in the homes of pioneers for sustainable agriculture and new media. In each we found an appetite for experimentation. Leaders readily borrowed ideas from adjacent industries. In the absence of infrastructure, solutions are imperfect yet flexible.

When change becomes the normal behavior, it’s not change anymore. It’s the new constant. This is the new way of approaching business. You’re going to change everyday.

We developed the environmental profit and loss so that in management we can and when we are making decisions, put everything in the same currency.
